What does the Berry Insurance Onboarding Process Look Like?
Are you ready for your first day at Berry Insurance? We sure hope so!
But if not, don’t fret. We understand starting a new job can be scary and you may still have concerns and curiosities about exactly what your first couple weeks will look like.
That’s what we’re here for. You know that Berry Insurance is all about education, so in this article we will try to answer all the lingering questions you may still have about the adjustment period to your new role.
Preparing for your first day:
As you’re eagerly awaiting your first day of work, you’ll probably be wondering what exactly onboarding looks like.
For us, onboarding starts before you even begin. Don’t worry, it’s nothing too intensive, but we will be reaching out to you so you can get a head start on some paperwork, as well as to ask you some questions so we can prepare for your arrival.
If you haven’t already, you can read more in depth about what you will be expected to do in this article: What to Expect after Accepting a Role at Berry Insurance
Your first week:
Your first week will be all about adjustment and getting comfortable in your new role and environment. We’ll have a variety of things lined up for you to work on, whether it be getting used to our tools and software, connecting with the team, or getting started on some trainings.
Some more specific examples include:
Get office tour
First things first: we want to make sure you know your way around the office. We’ll show you where everyone sits, where the bathroom and kitchen are, where you can get supplies, etc., so you don’t find yourself getting lost during your first week.
Get settled in
We know being in a brand new environment can be overwhelming, so we want you to take your time getting comfortable. You’ll have as much time as you need to take a breather, set up your office, and get cozy in your new space.
Fill out paperwork
In addition to the paperwork you filled out before starting, you’ll have some other things to fill out including forms for the HRA, flex spending, health insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, and payroll programs.
Get to know your new team
As a small team, it’s very important to us that everybody on the team know each other on more than just a “hello”-and-”goodbye” basis. You’ll spend time with each Berry Insurance employee, whether it be all together during our meetings or your welcome lunch, or on a one-on-one basis.
Depending on your role, you may be meeting with each team, having 1:1s with each team member, or shadowing people on your team.
Technology review
With a new company comes new technology. Your manager will introduce you to all this new technology including your computer, phone, and our printers, as well as all the software we use for email, documentation, HR, customer relationship management, and more.
HR review
During your first week at Berry Insurance, you'll also meet with our HR and Office Administrator, Moira, to go over important policies and procedures. This HR review is designed to ensure you have a thorough understanding of our company culture, values, and guidelines, as well as any benefits or resources available to you as an employee.
You’ll explore our HR software Bamboo, review the handbook and client success manual, and fill out forms such as the W4, emergency contact sheet, and benefit forms for health and vision insurance, flexible spending account and IRA.
Marketing review
No matter your role at Berry Insurance, it’s important for everyone to understand how our marketing efforts align with the company’s mission and goals. During your onboarding, you’ll meet with the marketing team to learn more about their roles and how your role relates to marketing efforts. You’ll learn about our marketing strategy, branding and messaging, platforms and tools we use and we’ll show you some of the marketing materials we’ve created.
Trainings
During your onboarding, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a variety of training sessions designed to help you get up to speed in your role and gain a deeper understanding of our company’s processes, tools, and industry standards.
Depending on your role, this could include shadowing or working with other employees, online video trainings or courses, books or written material, and of course, hands-on experience.
Preparing your bio/scheduling your headshots
We’ll also ask you to gather some information and photos so we can officially make you a part of the team on our website. This will include a few photos of you, a writeup about yourself and your personal and professional life, and some fun facts about you. You’ll also reach out to our neighbor, Paul Vicario, to schedule your professional headshots.
After your first week:
After your first week at Berry Insurance, you’ll likely start feeling more comfortable with your surroundings and have a solid grasp of the basics. But onboarding doesn’t end there! The following weeks and months are all about deepening your knowledge, connecting with your team, and gradually taking on more responsibilities as you settle into your role.
With a foundational understanding of your responsibilities, you’ll dive into more advanced aspects of your role including tackling more complex projects, working independently on assignments, or taking ownership of specific tasks. You’ll continue to receive guidance from your manager and teammates along the way as you build confidence and refine your skills.
We’re so excited to get started!
