What to Expect after Accepting a Role at Berry Insurance

Berry Insurance General/Culture

You’re officially the newest member of Team Berry Insurance - we’re so excited to have you! As you prepare to transition into your new position with us, you might be wondering what happens between now and your first day. Will you be hearing from us? Is there anything you are expected to do?

The period from the job offer to your start date is a crucial time for both you and our team. It's a chance to get all the necessary paperwork in order, begin connecting with your future colleagues, and ensure everything is set up for your arrival. We may be a small team, but we’ve been growing, so we’ve gone through this process with several people recently, which means we know what you can expect.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly what to expect during this time, from the documents you'll need to complete to the welcome messages and preparations happening behind the scenes. By the time you walk through our doors, you'll already feel like part of the team.

Return hiring documents

If we haven’t already done this step, you can expect to get several documents from us immediately after the job offer.

This will include:

  • Your formal offer letter
  • Your employment agreement, explaining the terms of your employment
  • CORI form for your background check
  • Employee handbook to review and sign off on
  • I-9 form
  • W-4 form

You will have to return the signed offer letter, employment agreement, and handbook to us at your earliest convenience before your start date. You can also send the remaining documents back, or just bring them for your first day at work.

Expect welcome correspondence

Even though you aren’t starting with us quite yet, you can certainly expect to be hearing from us.

You will likely receive a welcome video from Kaitlyn (or maybe even some other people on the team), keeping you in the loop of what’s going on here, as well as explaining what your first week will look like.

We’ll also be reaching out a few times for some information before you start, which leads me to my next section:

Send pre-start information

We always try to be as prepared as possible for our new team members’ arrivals, so we’ll be asking for some information from you.

We’ll need to know if you’re right- or left-handed to properly set up your desk. We’ll also ask which type of cell phone you have so we can prepare to set you up with our phone service for when you work remotely.

We’ll also be sending you a Google Sheet that we call our “Favorite Things Doc” with (quite a few) questions about yourself to fill out. These are mostly “getting to know you” questions such as favorite foods, products, hobbies, etc., as well as information such as shirt size so we can have all your fun Berry Insurance merch ready for you on your first day. You’ll also be able to read the rest of the team’s responses so you can get to know everybody a little bit before you start.

We prepare for your arrival

While we wait for your arrival, we’ll also be busy on the back end doing plenty to make sure you are ready to hit the ground running.

This will include setting up your desk, computer and software, getting your keys, business cards, materials, merch and more. Don’t worry, we will have all the bases covered, so there’s nothing you need to do on your end!

Rest up for day one!

If you didn’t notice during the interview process, work-life balance is really important to us, so the number one assignment we have for you before you start is to rest up.

We want you to come in on your first day excited, refreshed, and ready to go, so other than the few things we mentioned, we want you to take this transition time to do something for yourself. Take a few days off before starting with us, read a book, get a massage - whatever works for you.

We’ll be here when you’re ready! And if you have any questions in the meantime or just want to say hi, you know where to find us.
